Published: 29th Oct 2025

Birmingham is marking a huge surge in confidence in the city’s future, by hosting the first Government Regional Investment Summit held outside London.

The occasion has firmly positioned the city at the centre of the UK’s growth agenda, signalling billions of pounds in fresh investment and a clear commitment to accelerating regeneration.

Key announcements from the summit underline a bold vision built on innovation, creativity, and inclusive growth. Current infrastructure of the NEC will get a £200m from Blackstone into its modernisation and to keep it as a leading live events hub. While a £400 million investment by Hines and Woodbourne Group will drive forward the new £4 billion Knowledge Quarter, securing Birmingham’s status as a powerhouse for life sciences and advanced technologies. Plus, there's £3 billion Sports Quarter, designed by renowned architects Heatherwick Studio and MANICA, signalling a world-class leisure destination in the making. Alongside all this, new development propositions, such as the largest Mayoral Development Corporation in the UK, will streamline planning and unlock faster delivery across major projects.

There's also major investment into the city's creative quater from New Production Central WM connecting producers with set locations, local crew and suppliers to Digbeth’s wider regeneration with 110,000 sq ft of creative workspace and 1,700 new homes. Combine this with the advancing £2.5 billion Ladywood transformation, the message is clear: Birmingham is building for the future.

This is a city where ambition is matched by capability. As Council Leader Cllr John Cotton affirmed, “This is just the start.” Strategic investment is already unlocking job creation, housing, and growth across all communities, while initiatives like Production Central WM will expand Birmingham’s influence in the film and screen industries. With strong alignment between Birmingham City Council, Government, and West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker, the city is ready to deliver iconic developments and long-term prosperity.
