Boosting construction careers across Birmingham
Published: 3rd Dec 2025
Building Birmingham Skills Partnership (BBSP) has been launched, aiming to open doors for local residents to have careers in the construction industry.
BBSP’s launch, marked by a visit to Selly Oak Jobcentre and The Triangle development site, highlights the potential of the scheme. The £90 million Triangle project will deliver 836 units of student accommodation alongside retail and community spaces – just one example of the developments creating opportunities for skills, training, and long-term employment. Through collaboration between the council, the West Midlands Combined Authority, the Department for Work and Pensions, and key industry partners, the initiative will ensure that local young people and jobseekers are better connected to the opportunities created on their doorstep.
The partnership is a proactive step seeking to tackle the city’s unemployment challenges, which are among the greatest in the country. Councillor Nicky Brennan, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness emphasised that the initiative would help residents build “sustainable, quality careers” while Deputy Leader Cllr Sharon Thompson and with responsibility for Economy and Skills, described the partnership as a “once-in-a-generation chance” to link major development with genuine social impact.
