Pride in Place government initiative dedicates millions to community renewal across Birmingham
Birmingham will benefit significantly from the government’s new £5 billion funding for reviving pride in local places which will channel long-term investment into communities across the country.
Eight of Birmingham's neighbourhoods that have a high need for local investment are lined up to receive multi-million-pound funding over the next decade. The areas in the city selected in the government programme are Hawkesley, Druids Heath, Glebe Farm, Kingstanding South East, Woodgate, Sparkbrook North, Fox Hollies and Nechells.
They will gain approximately £2 million annually for 10 years. The aim of the programme is to revive neighbourhoods and local pride with stronger communities, thriving places and empowering people. Community groups and residents will be able to shape how and where the funds are spent, which supports the approach of Shaping Birmingham Future Together.
Further places with receive more immediate, shorter-term, £1.5m of capital funding to upgrade public spaces with new green spaces, play areas and sports and leisure facilities.
The investment will help to enhance opportunities, close gaps, and build and spread civic pride.
