Mayor Richard Parker, issues a call to global investors: ‘Now is the time’
Announced at the investment summit held in the city, Birmingham’s stepping onto the global investment stage as a major part of the £19 billion worth of opportunities in the region.
As the beating heart of the West Midlands economy, Birmingham sits at the centre of this vision. Home to transformational projects such as the Smithfield city centre urban redevelopment, the Curzon Street HS2 station, the Knowledge Quarter and the expanding Creative Quarter in Digbeth, these landmark schemes will reshape the city’s skyline, attract new businesses, and strengthen Birmingham’s role as the UK’s most dynamic growth hub.
Under a proposed new Mayoral Development Corporation to be established in the city, investors would be offered unprecedented clarity and speed, streamlining planning, land, and delivery to accelerate progress across key regeneration zones. The MDC will also have access to the £2.4 billion in regional transport investment, bringing forward the Metro Extension to the Sports Quarter and benefitting from the construction of HS2.
The city will also be powered by one of the youngest populations in Europe, ready to capitalise on its position at the crossroads of national infrastructure and innovation.
This is a pivotal moment for Birmingham, a city with global ambition, local talent, and the drive to deliver sustainable growth. From cutting-edge tech and clean energy to creative industries and modern housing, investment here means shaping the next chapter of a city built on progress.
