Major developments in Brum

UK’s largest economic growth area

Where else presents opportunities quite like the UK’s largest economic growth area?

Located in the heart of Birmingham, the area, ‘the Birmingham North Solihull Gateway’, stretches all the way from the city centre, through to East Birmingham, then to North Solihull and Birmingham Airport.

This growth arc includes the Our Future City Central Birmingham Framework area which supports expansion of the growth of the city centre into the surrounding inner-city. It also encompasses the East Birmingham North Solihull (EBNS) inclusive growth area, which is supported by the East Birmingham Inclusive Growth Strategy. The arc contains special economic zones and sites - the Enterprise Zone, Investment Zone and Growth Zone (part of the 2023 Devolution Deal with the West Midlands Combined Authority. These zones have financial levers including business rate retention for reinvestment into developments.

The aim of the growth arc is to advance a collection of major development sites which unlock new jobs and economic growth. The development sites expand the city centre to create new districts for knowledge-intensive services, tradable services and high value-added employment. They support cultural and leisure uses and transform the built environment and public realm. Major housing schemes are moving forward to address the housing need in the city.

Underpinning all the programmes is a commitment to inclusive economic growth - ensuring all parts of the city and citizens can benefit from the opportunities, including securing the new jobs.
